On May 17, I had the pleasure of speaking in the House supporting Motion 106 – which will establish a National Seniors Strategy.
This motion aims to consolidate the programs and initiatives already in place, and create a comprehensive, national strategy that supports all aspects of senior care: physical, social, mental, and economical.
Our government has made improving the lives of seniors a priority by making historic investments, including:
- Restoring the age of Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement to 65, which equals extra $17,000 back in the pockets of Canadians.
- Extending compassionate care benefits from 6 weeks to 26 weeks.
- Continued support for the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which offers grants to local initiatives that improves the quality of life for seniors. Proposals for this program are now open, and those interested can visit my Facebook page for more information.
