Member of Parliament Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook
In my first year in office, I have focused on making sure important projects in our riding are realized. I have also been listening to your concerns and suggestions at many town hall meetings on topics from veterans, to electoral reform, to Canada Post, and Budget 2016. Here are some of the things we’ve accomplished together over the past year:
Water Infrastructure and Public Transit: In August, Prime Minister Trudeau announced a $238 million investment in water, wastewater and public transit projects across the province. 3.9$ million of this fund will be allocated to Fall River. This project has been waiting to receive funding for over ten years. Nova Scotia has also benefitted from 29.5$ million in public transit investments.
Economic Development and Tourism: In May, right here in Eastern Passage, our Government announced a $289 million investment in small craft harbours across the country. I was so pleased to join the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans in our riding to announce that one million dollars of this fund will go into building a wharf extension in Eastern Passage. I also am very proud of our government’s investments in our riding’s small businesses thus far, with over $900,000 going to small business projects in our riding by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
Veterans: Our riding has a very proud tradition of service. I believe that it is my duty to strongly represent the interests and concerns of CAF members and veterans in Ottawa. I’ve been working closely with veterans groups within the riding to hear directly from them about their biggest priorities. They have told me that they want the return of life-long pensions for injured veterans, a walk-in clinic for veterans, and more assistance for CAF members as they transition back to civilian life. I am hard at work advocating for veterans, and I know that our Minister of Veterans Affairs is eager to hear what residents of Sackville—Preston—Chezzetcook have to say.
